RESIDENTS ENCOURAGED TO VISIT ABINGTON TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT’S NEWLY REDESIGNED WEB SITE

ABINGTON – The Abington Township Fire Department’s newly redesigned Web site went live on Nov. 2nd, and residents are invited to see the changes by visiting AbingtonFD.org.

In an effort to make information easier to access, provide seasonal fire safety tips, and highlight the ATFD’s involvement in the community, the ATFD has reorganized information on its homepage and created several new sections, such as one for press
releases and one for fire safety. Visitors to the homepage will notice changes right away, with a seasonal fire safety tip located in the right-hand corner, as well as a moving slideshow located in the middle of the homepage that includes photographs from recent ATFD events and activities.

“We wanted to make our Web site a place that really tells the story of what the ATFD is all about. The more than 200 volunteers who make up the ATFD are much more than the people who help out in emergencies. They are also the people who educate our community about fire safety and prevention at local events,” said Dave Schramm, Fire Services Administrator. “With the addition of our press releases, a new photo gallery, and an entire section devoted to fire safety, I believe we are giving people a better picture of what it is that we do on a daily basis to keep our community safe.”

In addition, the site contains links to the ATFD’s five member companies, as well as links to external organizations like the National Fire Protection Agency and FireSafety.gov. The ATFD’s newsletters, updates on the accreditation process,
information about membership opportunities, and a “Contact Us” link are also located on the Web site.

The ATFD is an all-volunteer force made up of five fire companies all operating within Abington Township. The five companies that form the ATFD are Abington, McKinley, Weldon, Edge Hill, and Roslyn. The service area is made up of approximately 15 square miles of Abington Township and is comprised of residential, commercial, educational, medical, light industrial, and other suburban properties. The ATFD serves approximately 56,000 residents.
