The
Abington Township Fire Department (ATFD) is
made up of your neighbors. Comprising five separately
chartered volunteer fire companies, the ATFD
covers an area of approximately 15 square miles
and protects more than 56,000 residents.
Serving for more than 100 years, the department
is 100 percent volunteer. Firefighters in the
ATFD are expected to train together as a department
at various times during the year as well as
with their individual companies. The ATFD provides
its firefighters with a certified training facility
for live burn evolutions, vehicle rescue training,
confined space rescue training, and a state-of-the-art
classroom training center.
The ATFD boasts 137 firefighters certified
to nationally recognized standards in the essentials
of firefighting. Additionally, members of each
company have achieved awareness, operations,
and technician levels of training in vehicle
rescue, hazardous materials response, structural
collapse rescue, confined space rescue, and
trench rescue.
